While talking to Classic Rock Magazine recently, the famed Canadian rock singer opened up about his career and what he has achieved in the past 50 years as an artist. He even touched upon how and why his most popular anthem, ‘Summer of ’69,’ came to existence.He revealed that he was always bummed he didn’t write the lyrics to ‘Summer of ‘69’ and shared that it was inspired by Bob Seger’s 1976 song ‘Night Moves.’ He added, “That’s such a brilliant song, it always pissed me off that I didn’t write it.” Furthermore, he praised Seger and his song for capturing the essence of nostalgia.He added, “It’s a nostalgic song. Romantic. Teenage blues, that awkwardness of trying to figure out sexuality – it’s all there.” He further concluded by quoting, “I got my first real six-string/Bought it at the five and dime/Played it ’til my fingers bled/Was the summer of ’69.”
